“Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his…” 2 Timothy 2:19a
There is a song that has stuck with me lately, and the chorus goes like this:
“I’m fully known, and loved by you
You won’t let go, no matter what I do
And it’s not one or the other
It’s hard truth and ridiculous grace
To be known, fully known, and loved by You
I’m fully known, and loved by You”
There are times when this is incredibly hard to believe.
Because I know myself.
And I am deeply flawed.
So very human on so many levels.
And there are times when I wonder if I do truly even know myself.
But God. HE DOES.
Psalm 139:13-14 recounts one of the most beautiful expressions in the Bible for me.
“For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.”
There are over 3 billion basepairs of DNA in the human genome. If you were to line up each and every cell in a single human body, it would travel the length between the earth and the sun ONE HUNDRED TIMES OVER.
That boggles the mind.
Each and every human being has been fearfully and wonderfully made.
By our Creator.
By a God so enamored with beauty that it wasn’t enough to create the earth, the sun, the stars, and the oceans.
He wanted to design YOU. His masterpiece.
And so He did.
But it wasn’t enough to simply create you.
Beautiful, unique, and completely one of a kind.
He wanted to KNOW you.
Every single detail. Every single flaw. Every single hidden heartache.
Every single joy. Every single victory. Every single dream.
The longings of your heart that have been hidden away from the light.
The moments that have made you, broken you, healed you, restored you … the moments that are still refining you.
Oh my friend. He knows them all.
And He walks with you. Through every second of your entire existence. From the moment you were conceived to the moment you enter eternity to be with Him forever.
There isn’t a place you can go that He won’t follow.
There isn’t a tear you can cry that He won’t store up in His jar.
And there isn’t a fall you can take where He won’t reach down to help you back up and onto solid ground.
To try again. And perhaps even again and again.
Like a father gently helping his child learn to walk. He patiently watches over you, over me. And we are never alone. No matter the fall, grace abounds more.
Because on that cross, your sins were fully acknowledged and HIS beauty and worth became yours.
You are fully known. And extravagantly loved.
Accept it, and love Him in return.
Give him your heart, whether it is whole or in pieces. He longs to be in the deepest parts of your being that only He can fill. There is a sacred place in each one of us meant only for the Lord. And try as we might, it cannot be filled with any earthy possession or person.
We were created for Him.
Fully known, and fully loved.
“It’s not one or the other, it’s hard truth and ridiculous grace to he known, fully known, and loved by you.”
